David City, located 12 miles southeast of Bellwood, recently completed construction on a new $2.4 million Family Aquatic Center in David City's historic park. The facility offers all day swimming and private swimming lessons in the morning. The pool vessel and the shower facility can accomodate up to a total of 500 people at any one time and the facility itself had over 5,000 visitors during the summer of 2003. The facility offers a theme park style 50 foot slide, along with an olympic size pool. The David City Family Aquatic Center is one of the premier swimming facilities in eastern Nebraska. Other events inlclude the Butler County Fair and River City Trail Days. Attractions include the Butler County Historical Society/Museum, Nichol's Round Barn, Thorpe Opera House. Butler County Arts Council, Inc., promotes the arts through outstanding programs and workshops for youth.

Columbus, located 12 miles nouthwest, has a new hospital with 80 beds. These are also 11 outpatient clinics, 30 doctors, 10 dentists, 8 chiropractors, 102 registered nurses, 57 practical nurses, and 12 veterinarians. The David City hospital, located 12 miles southeast, is also home to a 5,100 square foot Community Wellness Center. The center features weight machines, stationary bicycles, treadmills, stairclimbers, recumbent bikes, whirlpool, aerobics classes, learning center, locker facilities and fitness evaluations. Membership packages are available to anyone over age 14. The Shelby Clinic located 20 miles southwest, is managed through Butler County P.C. and is staffed by four doctors (alternating days) and a nurse. The clinic is open four days each week. The Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center, located in Osceola, 27 miles southeast, is a 21-bed acute and skilled care hospital licensed by the state. Services available include: acute care, coronary and intensive care, swing bed, intermediate care, 24-hour emergency room, labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum birthing suite, general and microscopic surgery, radiology (fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, CT, and MRI), laboratory, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, pharmacy, social services, cardiac rehabilitation, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
